Reflection:

FBI Group Project

Last year I had my first brief look into what it will be like to work in the business world. It was my first semester of my freshmen year of college, so it was needless to say that I was a bit lost when I was told that I would be building  a presentation on how I could improve the Texas A&M campus and that was about all the instruction I was given. No real guidelines, rules, or requirements. I was so used to being given explicit instructions on what I needed to do and how I needed to do it. This idea of figuring it out on my own was a very foreign concept. We were put into groups to do this project and we were briefly relieved to find out that we were all at just as much of a loss as to what exactly we were supposed to be doing. That relief was quickly replaced by panic and stress over how we were going to achieve this huge project. The confusion and stress ended up being a great learning experience in the end. Us lost freshmen had to band together and learn how to communicate our ideas and work together to make a business plan and create a presentation. The biggest struggle for me was learning to trust the other members of my group. We were all delegated certain tasks that were crucial to our success and although I knew that I would put in 110% to make sure that my share of the work was done and done well, there was no way to know if the same could be said for my teammates. The blind trust required was scary at first, but I quickly learned that there was nothing to fear and having teammates actually made the whole project a lot easier and more enjoyable. We also had to learn how to give a proper business presentation, which was even more stressful than the project itself. Luckily ours went off without a hitch, and taught me to be proud and confident in my abilities and achievements. Overall, this project was a lot of fun and a unique experience that I learned a lot from. Now, not only do I feel prepared to work effectively with groups in the future, but I'm excited to do so!
